A 27-year-old man was allegedly gunned down in Westridge, Mitchells Plain on Friday afternoon, 5 March 2021. At the time of publishing, it was the 13th incident this month.
As reported by Radio 786, the victim was “reportedly a reformed gangster who had voluntarily left the witness protection programme”.

Mitchells Plain shootings
The incident follows just days after multiple children lost their lives to gang violence in what is now being described as a “night of violence” after the area was struck by gang warfare.
Less than a week later, four men and two teens were killed in separate incidents. According to Colonel Andrè Traut, unknown suspects opened fire on the group of five men in Maureen Street, Lost City, Mitchells Plain.
Four men were killed and the suspects fled the scene on foot. On the same day, two teens were shot and killed, and three others wounded in Mitchells Plain in separate shooting incidents.
Children killed in Mitchells Plain
Traut confirmed that five children – between the ages of 13 and 18 were shot at around 21:00 on Thursday, 25 February, at the corner of Cadillac and Riley streets in Beacon Valley.
A 13-year-old teen was killed and the rest were wounded. Traut said eyewitnesses could confirm that the occupants of a white vehicle opened fire at the victims.
At the time of publishing, the suspects were yet to be arrested, and Traut explained that the “motive for the shooting was unknown” at that stage”.
